Chirag Paswan, Minister of Food Processing Industries in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, came out in a strong support of Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Indian National Congress and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha after the latter face caste based discrimination and the place where he delivered speech was purified by hardcore members of Hindu community at Haldwani. 

Even though BJP tried to cover up the issue, the Union Minister vociferously condemned the act of purification ritual by so called Hindu hardcore people. Paswan is not buying the party line of BJP and openly supporting opposition leader on discrimination issue.

Paswan, whose Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is an ally in NDA, said that the reservation to the weaker section will continue as long as caste-based discrimination exists in the society.

In the meantime, Congress has had grist to derive political mileage out of the issue.
