BHEL CMD being pressurized to write a note for extension of Director Power?
The Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is rumoured to be under severe pressure being put by the Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industry for writing a recommendation note-sheet for the extension of Tajinder Gupta to the post of Director Power, BHEL.

Gupta ending tenure on February 28, 2027 is said to be wishing extension in line with other CMDs and Chairman getting after superannuation.

However, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) already advertised the vacancy on June 2, 2026.  It is to be seen whether rumour comes true or the PESB selects a candidate for his successor.

It may be recalled that ahead of official appointment as Director Power in BHEL, Tajinder Gupta, who was working with NTPC, had joined Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on deputation. On relieving from NTPC, Gupta was appointed as OSD, Power, BHEL.

It is probably for the first time in the history of BHEL that a candidate selected by the PESB was appointed on deputation prior to ACC approval.

It is also rumoured that the Secretary is under pressure from the Government of India to take a note from the CMD so as to initiate the extension process, according to reliable sources in the Ministry.
