It is probably for the first time in the history of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) that the Director (Power) is wielding enormous ‘power’ on the Board.

Tajinder Gupta, Director (Power), holding an additional charge (Human Resources) emerged as a key decision maker on the Board.

Gupta, who came from NTPC, is taking all major decisions circumscribing the influence of other Board members. He is playing an instrumental role in the contracts/projects of crore of rupees and administrative & HR policies.

It sounds interesting that an external Director has wrested all control of the company.

The Board presently consists of K Sadashiv Murthy as Chairman & Managing Director; Tajinder Gupta as Director (Power) with additional charge of HR; S M Ramanathan as Director (Engineering, Research & Development); Rajesh Kumar Dwivedi as Director (Finance) and Ms Bani Varma, Director (Industrial Systems and Products).
