Mismanagement causes major fire at Process Gas Compressor; ONGC tries to hide incident
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas made a forlorn effort to hide the fire incident at the NQG platform's Process Gas Compressor C (PGC-C) after a gas cooler finger ruptured on October 12.

The firefighters brought the fire under control after an hour with no human loss and injuries.

The ONGC made all attempts to cover up the incident that led the authorities to shut down the platform engaged in processed crude oil pumping from wells below the seabed.

This ONGC’s oil platform is off the Mumbai coast and processes over 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

ONGC Offshore Fire – Serious Concerns

●  Frequent transfers of experienced manpower, leading to loss of operational expertise and continuity.

● Centralised procurement in the name of transparency and efficiency, causing delays in critical equipment procurement, maintenance and upgradation.

● Outsourcing of platform O&M alongside reduction of permanent manpower, with the risk of deploying inexperienced contractual personnel in safety-critical operations.

Offshore safety cannot be sacrificed for cost-cutting and administrative efficiency. These concerns warrant an impartial investigation and urgent corrective action.
