Govt introduces Bill after ‘bureaugram’ story on TReDS a new policy scam
After taking a serious note of 'Bureaugram' story titled: “TReDS a new policy scam: Is it turning Govt payment delays into a 'Cut Money' burden on MSMEs”, the Government of India has come up with a MSME Development (Amendment) Bill-2026 and is introducing in this ongoing session of monsoon.

The Government of India is trying to align the MSME Development Act 2006 with changing MSME landscape, to enhance the Ease of Doing Business and bring trust based regulations in the MSME ecosystem, to strengthen the mechanism for addressing the delayed payments and provide for enforcement of arbitral awards for the MSEs and to introduce flexibility and create enabling provisions for States to decide composition of MSE Facilitation Council (MSEFC) thereby forming more MSEFCs.

The Government swung into action after the ‘Bureaugram’ highlighted how the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS) reversed the principle and became a policy scam.

Now, the Government is willing to amend the system through this Bill. The link of the story as follows:
