Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata organises ‘Srijoni 2.0 – waste to wonder’
Aligned with the theme “Swachhata Se Samriddhi”, the initiative showcased how discarded materials can be transformed into useful, creative and marketable products through innovation, reuse and recycling. The exhibition brought the spirit of “Kabaad Se Jugaad – Waste to Wealth” and “Kabaad Se Kala – Waste to Art” to life, demonstrating that what is discarded as waste can become a resource for creativity, livelihood and environmental responsibility.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Chairperson, SMPA, Rathendra Raman, in the presence of HoDs and senior officials of the Kolkata Dock System. The initiative was supported by partner organisations including Zero Shop of New Town Kolkata Development Authority, Goonj, Prayas, Haati and AmArt Greens, whose work demonstrates the potential of turning waste into meaningful creations.
From creative artworks to functional products, the exhibits highlighted the principles of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle while encouraging a shift in perspective — from seeing waste as something to discard to recognising it as a resource with value.
Chairperson Rathendra Raman appreciated the participating organisations, artists and SMPA officials associated with the initiative, recognising their efforts in promoting creativity, sustainability and civic responsibility. He also encouraged taking forward such initiatives to nurture talent and strengthen a culture of responsible waste management.
Srijoni 2.0 reinforced a simple yet powerful message: cleanliness is not only about managing waste, but also about rethinking what we throw away and creating value from it.
