Suresh was posted as Regional Manager of the Northern Region (RM/NR) when Soma Mondal was Director (Commercial) of SAIL
Suresh was promoted to Executive Director (Coal Import Group) when Soma was Chairman SAIL and holding additional charge of Director (Commercial) of SAIL
Soma was Director (Commercial) of SAIL and hence member of RMT (Revenue Maximization Team which decided the monthly minimum selling prices) when the business of operating exorbitantly low prices for SWR14 Blooms was initiated by Suresh as RM/NR with Avon Steel Industries P Ltd
Soma was Director (Commercial) of SAIL when Project MOU of 1,50,000 T was signed with Venkatesh Infra Projects P Ltd
Soma Mondal was Member, PESB when Suresh was selected for the post of CMD-MOIL
Soma buried the complaints on Venkatesh Infra Projects P Ltd and Avon Steel Industries P Ltd when the Whistle Blower Rajeev Bhatia sent the complaints to her on Nov 17, 2022
On three further occasions, Soma buried the same complaints under the carpet when she received them from the PMO
On Feb 24, 2026, Bureaugram.com had broken a story on supply of over 21,000 T of steel products in the name of projects at heavy discounts to two FAKE Project firms namely SHUBHAM BUILDERS and SHIKHA CONSTRUCTION. SAIL initiated the business with the FAKE Project firms from Faridabad and Ghaziabad branches of the Northern Region in Feb 2019 and March 2021 respectively during the tenure of V Suresh as RM/NR. It is expected that illegal benefit of about Rs 8.0 Crores was passed to the two firms in the name of Projects although the steel has been traded.
The family behind both the firms was the same Goel Family who was already in steel trading business largely Plates [both Hot Strip Plates and Plate Mill Plates] and connected to SAIL through their various firms like NOHAR CHAND & SONS STEELS P LTD; NOHAR CHAND LOHA BHANDAR, INTERNATIONAL LOHA BHANDAR P LTD etc. and procuring steel from Faridabad and Ghaziabad branches for trading purpose. As per SAIL website, NOHAR CHAND LOHA BHANDAR is also a distributor for its TMT Bars attached to the Ghaziabad Branch.
Bureaugram’s investigations have added a new firm to the list. AAVIDI PROJECTS INFRA (OPC) P LTD is a Ghaziabad based firm with Nature of Core Business Activity as “Trader – Wholesaler/Distributor”.
Supplies to SHUBHAM BUILDERS and AAVIDI PROJECTS INFRA (OPC) P LTD were initiated as Projects when Soma was the Director (Commercial) and to SHIKHA CONSTRUCTION while on the post of Chairman SAIL with additional charge of Director (Commercial).

Over 21,000 T of Plates and 2,000 T of TMT Bars sold to AAVIDI PROJECTS INFRA (OPC) P LTD in the name of projects. Here also it is expected that an illegal benefit of about Rs 8.0 Crores was passed to the firm in the name of Projects although the steel has been traded.

Suresh was RM/NR from Jan 2019 to May 2021. Had he remained longer, the numbers would have been more staggering. Story would be incomplete if contribution of Abhijeet Kumar is not mentioned, to whom Suresh passed the baton of RM/NR. Kumar also emphatically carried on with the supply to FAKE Projects with whom Suresh initiated the supplies/business on heavy discounts by illegally using the DoP/Guidelines given to the Regional Managers exclusively for Genuine Projects.
