Proposal for additional charge of CMD, SAIL to CMD, MOIL turned down

Proposal for additional charge of CMD, SAIL to CMD, MOIL turned down
The Government of India is reported to have rejected the proposal for assigning an additional charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) to Vishwanath Suresh, CMD, MOIL till the appointment a regular incumbent after curtailing the tenure of present CMD, Amarendu Prakash.

PESB is holding interviews for the post of CMD SAIL on Mar 28, 2026 and a new incumbent will be seen soon in the chair. However, till SAIL gets a regular CMD, the Government of India is expected to give an additional charge of CMD, SAIL to an Additional Secretary level officer till the appointment of a new incumbent.

According to sources, the Ministry of Steel had moved a file proposing an additional charge of CMD, SAIL to Vishwanath Suresh, CMD, MOIL Limited after a vacancy of this post is arising on April 2, 2026. But the Prime Minister Office (PMO) has reportedly rejected the proposal as the CBI cases against V Suresh are pending. It was a complete surprise for all when PMO cleared the name of Vishwanath Suresh for the post of CMD, MOIL on Jan 7, 2026 but it seems that now PMO has second thoughts now in view of the LOKPAL/CBI inquiry going against him. He was among the 29 officers who were suspended by Ministry of Steel on Jan 19, 2024 in LOKPAL/CBI cases which are still going on.
