Is PMO not aware? Centre defends a SAIL official who connived with Congress politician family

The Steel Ministry is reported to have engaged Solicitor General of India to defend the appointment of a tainted official as CMD-MOIL that too the one who connived with a Congress politician family. Is PMO not aware?

It sounds more interesting that the trained official also connived with family of Aam Admi Party’s MLA apart from the Congress politician family.

Earlier it has been seen that public funds of Rs 70 lakh were used to defend the corrupt officials of SAIL before the LOKPAL of India

It needs to be mentioned here that Venkatesh Infra Projects P Ltd was incorporated on October 12, 2020 and is registered at ROC Delhi at Property No. 349 Left Side First Floor, Near Kath Godown, Metro Station, Sultanpur, M.G. Road, New Delhi.

The board of directors of VENKATESH INFRA PROJECTS PRIVATE LIMITED comprises Karishma Agarwal and Ekta Agarwal. Ekta Agarwal is the daughter-in-law of Jai Prakash Agarwal who often contests the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha seat on the Congress ticket.

The firm which was formed 8 days ago, SAIL went on sign a Project MOU with Venkatesh Infra Projects P Ltd for 1,50,000 T of steel. Subsequently a Whistle Blower’s complaint revealed that the firm was not doing any project and steel sold by SAIL has been traded by the firm for windfall gains. Notable thing is that SAIL officials in connivance with the firm, doled illegal discounts of over Rs 80 Crores in the name of project.

On the orders of LOKPAL of India, CBI has registered an FIR No. RC2182024A0021 on 10.10.2024 u/s 120B, 420, 468, 471 IPC and Sections 7, 9 and 12 of the P.C. Act, 1988 as amended against the erring senior officials of SAIL, Venkatesh Infra Projects P Ltd and APCO Infratech P Ltd.

Northern Region of SAIL was the centre stage of transactions done with the firm and V Suresh was heading the region during that period. As a result, his involvement was quite serious and he was also kept under suspension from Jan 19, 2024 to Jun 28, 2024. Pending CBI/Lokpal investigations, not only his suspension was revoked by the Ministry of Steel but subsequently posted him as CMD-MOIL in Jan 2026 although in view of the ongoing investigations, the salary difference for the suspension period has still not been released by the Ministry to him.

MOIL JANSHAKTI MAZDOOR SANGH BALAGHAT has filed a petition with the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court challenging the appointment of V Suresh as CMD-MOIL due to the pending CBI inquiry in the matter of supplies to Venkatesh Infra Projects P Ltd and Avon Steel Industries P Ltd.

In the above matter the Solicitor General of India appeared before the court to defend his appointment.

CBI has registered FIR No.RC2182025A0015 on July 25, 2025, in the matter of steel sales to Avon Steel Industries Pvt Ltd, in which SAIL lost Rs 370 crore.
