Income Tax Officer gets three years rigorous imprisonment in bribery case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court, Ahmedabad has convicted and sentenced  the accused Jarnail B Singh, Income Tax Officer (OSD), in the office of the Joint/Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (Audit) Pratyakashkar Bhavan, Ahmedabad, to Rigorous Imprisonment for Three Years with a fine of Rs. 20,000, in a bribery case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on February 22, 2013 on allegations that the accused Income Tax Officer demanded an illegal gratification of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant for issuing a certificate u/s 11 and 80G of Income Tax Act, for giving exemption to the trust “Shrilekha Vividhlaxi Charitable Trust”. 

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting an  illegal gratification of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant. The accused was arrested on February 22, 2013. The chargesheet in the matter was filed by CBI on October 31, 2013.The Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused on August 21,2026, accordingly.
