DGMA participates in India Ship Leasing and Financing Summit
During the Industry Engagement Session on "Establishing Ship Ownership, Ship Leasing and Ship Financing Ecosystem in GIFT IFSC," Shyam Jagannathan, DGMA, joined senior policymakers and industry leaders in discussions focused on accelerating the growth of GIFT IFSC as a globally competitive hub for ship ownership, leasing and maritime finance. The deliberations covered key themes including regulatory reforms, taxation frameworks, ease of doing business, global benchmarking and measures required to attract maritime capital and strengthen India's position in international shipping.
DGMA highlighted the transformative reforms introduced through the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025 and the Coastal Shipping Act, 2025, which have expanded opportunities for ship ownership, leasing and maritime investment. The discussions also showcased policy initiatives supporting enhanced flagging flexibility, streamlined registration processes, digital service delivery through eSamudra and measures aimed at strengthening India's maritime financing and leasing ecosystem through GIFT IFSC.
The Summit underscored the importance of continued collaboration among policymakers, regulators, financial institutions and maritime stakeholders in building a globally competitive maritime services ecosystem. The engagement reaffirmed DGMA's commitment to supporting India's vision of becoming a leading maritime nation by fostering innovation, facilitating investment and enabling sustainable growth across the shipping and shipbuilding sectors.
