A deep resentment is brewing up against Chairman, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), due to retrograde steps. The officers working with the Maharatna are reported to be working under severe harassment and stress under the leadership of the present incumbent because of his actions against them.

According to sources, Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman, ONGC has reportedly withheld ‘Voluntary Retirement Scheme’ (VRS) depriving the officers of benefits of premature retirements. The officers, who cross 50 of age, are compelled to resign instead of opting VRS. Besides, the ONGC is also reported to have stopped other benefits meant to the officers.

It is noteworthy that Arun Kumar Singh was appointed as Chairman, ONGC on December 7, 2022 after retiring as CMD, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) on attaining the age of superannuation. Singh, who donned the mantle for a period of three years till December 6, 2025, has been given yet another term for a period of one year till December 6, 2026.

The officers, who are on the horns of dilemma, have no option, but to work under his leadership for one-more year.

As per sources, he is enjoying the leadership in the largest crude oil and natural gas Company in India, contributing around 71 per cent to Indian domestic production, after his retirement due to a strong political connection with the present regime.

It also needs to note that a vacancy of Chairman was advertised on March 3, 2025, but no one was appointed among the aspirants who had applied for the post. His four-term has queered the pitches of many applicants.
