THDC India Ltd achieves a significant milestone
THDC India Limited has achieved a significant milestone at its 444 MW (4x111 MW) Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) with the successful lowering and placement of the assembled Main Inlet Valve (MIV) of Unit-1 on 02 June 2026.

The milestone event was virtually graced by Sipan Kumar Garg, Chairman & Managing Director, THDC India Ltd., who congratulated the entire project team for their dedication and commitment in achieving this significant feat. Garg stated that the accomplishment marks a critical advancement in the Electro-Mechanical installation works of the project, moving it closer towards operational readiness and successful completion.

Owing to its large size, complex assembly and vital role in plant operations, the successful lowering and installation of the MIV represents a major project milestone in the execution of the project.

The Main Inlet Valve (MIV) is a critical Electro-Mechanical component installed between the penstock and the Turbine in a hydropower plant. Its primary function is to regulate and isolate the flow of water entering the Turbine. The MIV serves as an essential safety and operational device, enabling the Turbine unit to be safely shut down during emergencies, maintenance activities and abnormal operating conditions.

On the occasion, L P Joshi, Chief Technical Officer (CTO), and Kumar Sharad, Executive Director (Projects), congratulated the VPHEP team and appreciated their unwavering dedication, technical excellence and seamless coordination.

Ajay Verma, Executive Director (VPHEP), expressed his gratitude to the THDCIL management for their continuous guidance and support. He acknowledged the collective efforts of engineers, employees and stakeholders whose commitment made this achievement possible.

Senior officials present on the occasion included Ravindra Singh Rana, GM (EM); R P Mishra, GM (Dam); Himangshu Chakravorty, AGM (Finance); B S Pundir, AGM (Planning/Safety); S P Dobhal, AGM (PH); Ajay Kumar, AGM (G&G); O P Arya, AGM (CO/Township); R S Panwar, DGM (CO); S C Bhatt, DGM (QC); Anil Nautiyal, DGM (HM); Karan Bargali, DGM (EM); Anil Raj, DGM (EM), along with other officers and employees of the project.
