Talk of the town: Two IPS officers being trolled for transgressing police rules
By Sunil Salve

In spite of clear-cut training imparted to the Probationers of Indian Police Service (IPS), a few of them fail to perform the duty accordingly in the fields and transgress the bounds of decency and police rules. The officers should keep in mind that they have to keep the nation's priority on top instead of being influenced by the ruling party and groups.

Recently, 1997 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Vishwas Nangare Patil came in for severe criticism after he participated in an RSS programme and showered praises on it. Soon after the speech, he was trolled on social media and faced criticism from oppositions in the country.

In yet another episode, a 2015 batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, Avinash Pandey presently Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Meerut, was also trolled on social media after he broke the police rules by beating a protester in the lock of a police van. He also violated human rights by chasing and beating the peaceful protestors gathered in protest against the killing of a girl in the district.

These two IPS officers who were enlisted in the police failed to perform in the line of duty. They should take fair action in the public interest and nation without being influenced by ruling parties. The society and nation will not condone such incidents against the constitution.

Such officers face the music after regime change in the democracy setup.
