Safety committee meeting held at NCL
In his address, Sairam described the discussions held during the meeting as constructive. He emphasized that training for all employees—including contractual staff—is indispensable for ensuring safety and stressed the need to develop the Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) located at the projects into model and specialized training centers. He also appreciated NCL's innovative e-training initiative, the 'VTC Portal'.
He called for ensuring regular health check-ups for all contractual workers through health camps and issued directives for the continuous improvement of welfare facilities. In light of current global conditions arising from conflicts, he highlighted the use of e-vehicles in mining operations as the need of the hour. He further stated that it is our responsibility to continue fulfilling the nation's energy aspirations, even amidst challenging circumstances.
NCL Director (Personnel) Manish Kumar and Director (Technical), Ashutosh Dwivedi were also present on the occasion. Members of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), CMOAI, and the Company Safety Board participated in the meeting. Representatives from trade unions attending as JCC members included Ajay Kumar (CMS), Shyamdhar Dubey (BMS), Lal Pushpraj Singh (RCSS), and Ashok Kumar Pandey (HMS), while CMOAI was represented by President S K Pandey and General Secretary Sarvesh Singh. General Managers from all projects, Heads of Departments from NCL headquarters, and Safety Board members from trade unions—including Mohammad Jinnah (CMS) and SD—were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Director (Personnel) Manish Kumar described the suggestions received during the meeting as extremely important, noting that NCL always views such suggestions with a positive outlook. He highlighted the transparency maintained in recruitment processes and reiterated the company's commitment to continuously improving all welfare measures, including medical facilities.
Director (Technical) Ashutosh Dwivedi stated that the detailed and in-depth discussions held during the meeting yielded many valuable suggestions. He remarked that the development of a robust safety culture in the mines was the most meaningful outcome of the discussion. Advising everyone against overconfidence regarding safety, he emphasized that mining operations are specialized tasks requiring heightened vigilance and responsibility. He laid special emphasis on creating a cordial, safe, and positive environment at the workplace.
The meeting commenced with the administration of a safety pledge. A detailed presentation was given regarding accidents that occurred over the past year, their causes, analysis, and the corrective measures taken. Additionally, a review was conducted of the compliance actions taken on decisions and points raised in the previous meeting.
Members of the JCC and the Safety Board shared their suggestions and experiences regarding safety-related issues. Representatives offered various constructive ideas to further strengthen the safety culture at workplaces and ensure an accident-free environment. Members particularly appreciated innovative initiatives such as LMV road safety, Digital VTC, and i-TPLC. The meeting was organized by the General Manager (Safety) and his team. Prior to the start of the event, a floral tribute was paid at the statue of the miner.
