Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra joins Director (Tech), Operations, SECL
On the occasion, HODs, officers and employees of SECL extended their congratulations and best wishes to Mohapatra on assuming his new responsibilities. He also held a review meeting with HODs and Area General Managers, taking stock of key operational priorities and ongoing activities across the company.
With over three decades of experience in the mining sector, Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra brings extensive expertise in mine operations, project management and strategic leadership. Prior to joining SECL as Director (Technical), he was serving as General Manager, Jhanjra Area, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).
An alumnus of IIT-BHU, Mohapatra holds a degree in Mining Engineering (1990) and an MBA in Human Resource Management. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).
He began his professional journey at Surakachhar Colliery in SECL’s Korba Area and has held several key positions, including Colliery Manager, Project Officer, Additional General Manager and General Manager. Over the course of his career, he has successfully led some of Coal India Limited’s major ‘underground and opencast mining operations’.
His professional experience spans production enhancement, adoption of modern mining technologies, resolution of complex land and rehabilitation issues, and strengthening engagement with local communities. His strategic approach and innovative leadership have contributed significantly to operational efficiency and sustainable mine development.
Mohapatra has also represented the Indian coal sector at international platforms, including the African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, as well as industrial cooperation discussions in the Czech Republic.
