The Ministry of Power has set up a Search-cum-Selection Committee (SCSC) in order to select a candidate for the successor to incumbent Gurdeep Singh ending his over-decade tenure as Chairman & Managing Director, NTPC Limited on August 1. It is noteworthy that the Government had extended his tenure for a period of one year after attaining the age of superannuation with effect from July 2025 amid the selection process of new incumbent. His extension had queered the pitches of many aspirants in the power sector.  The Ministry has sought applications from the interested candidates before March 28, 2026.
