MDL’s CSR Initiative strengthens access to assistive devices through ALIMCO’s PMD-VK
The PMD-VK, located at the AYJNISHD campus in Bandra, is operated by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), a Mini-Ratna Category-II Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Through this initiative, MDL has extended support to the Government of India’s efforts to improve access to assistive technology and rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities and senior citizens.
On the occasion, aids and assistive devices were distributed to Divyangjan beneficiaries through the centre in the presence of Arun K. Chand, Executive Director/HoD (CSR), MDL; Pradeep Mahadeshwar, DGM (HR/CSR), MDL; and Dr. Suman Kumar, Director, AYJNISHD. S K Tripathi, General Manager (Marketing), ALIMCO, and Mrinal Kumar, In-charge, ALIMCO Mumbai, were also present.
ALIMCO has established Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendras across the country to bring essential assistive devices and rehabilitation services closer to needy Divyangjan and Senior Citizens. These centres facilitate access to appropriate aids and appliances under the applicable schemes of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, thereby supporting beneficiaries in overcoming mobility and functional challenges and leading more independent lives.
The PMD-VK at Bandra provides access to a wide range of assistive devices for Divyangjan, including motorised tricycles, wheelchairs, hearing aids, Sugamya Canes, walking sticks and other mobility aids. It also facilitates access to assistive products for Senior Citizens, such as wheelchairs with commode, walking sticks with seat, lumbar support belts, knee braces, spinal supports and other aids designed to support daily living. 3D scanning facility at the center for prosthetic will provide customised design and fitting of artificial limbs.
The availability of these devices and services will help Divyangjan participate more actively in education, employment and community life while supporting opportunities for self-reliance. For Senior Citizens, assistive products can facilitate safer mobility, improve daily functioning, quality of life and promote greater independence with livelihood opportunity.
MDL’s CSR support shall strengthen the existing service delivery centre operated by ALIMCO. The collaboration will pave way towards building an accessible and inclusive India, where Divyangjan and Senior Citizens have improved access to appropriate assistive solutions and greater opportunities to live with dignity, independence and self-reliance.
