IAS Tukaram Mundhe does no offbeat job only enforces law of the land

To enact a law is not enough! More important is to implement it on the ground. The constitution of India is regarded as one of the best constitutions in the world, but is not effective in practical terms. As per law, one can’t spit and pee in a public place, if found can be fined and tried for the nuisance.
Those who visit foreign countries, admire law and order and hygiene conditions over there and feel regret seeing the bad condition of their own country. India can also be treated for good hygienic standards and law-abiding rules, but to no avail for want of political and bureaucratic will power.
A 2005 batch officer of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) of Maharashtra cadre, Mundhe proved that if bureaucratic will power is applied then stereotypical attitude can be changed with making the people law-abiding citizens in the country.
Mundhe does not do any offbeat and new jobs; he only enforces the law of the country.
Taking a cue from Mundhe, other bureaucrats should take such bold decisions in public interests and lead the country in progressive mode.
Wherever the officer is posted, he just performs his duty in accordance with law enacted by the Government.
No sooner did Mundhe join as Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration in May 2026 than he carried out crackdowns on the adulterations and banned the production, distribution, and sale of fake 'analogue' paneer for one entire year citing the concern of common man.
Not only this, he also raided hotels, restaurants, caterers, and cloud kitchens that are strictly prohibited from using, preparing, serving, or storing these artificial dairy substitutes. Many establishments were sealed after being found unhygienic and not upto standard marks.
The officer, wherever he goes, is met with loud applause for his upright and crackdown actions against the adulteration and unhygienic practice.
Citizens are backing him up to the hilt for his decisions and actions in the public interests.
Career history:
Mundhe is a 2005 batch IAS officer of home state cadre. He started his career as Assistant Collector, Solapur in 2007 and in the same year he was shifted to Nanded in the same capacity.
Mundhe was appointed Chief Executive Officer, Nagar Zila Parishad, Nagpur in 2008. He was made Additional Commissioner, Tribal Department, Nashik in 2009 and in the same year he was transferred as CEO Zila Panchayat, Washim.
In 2010, he returned to Mumbai and was posted as MD &CEO Industries Mumbai City. For the first time, he was appointed as District Collector, Jalna in 2011. But he did not continue and returned as Special Commissioner, Sales Tax Mumbai City in 2012 and Joint Commissioner, Finance/Sales Taxes 2012.
Mundhe was again made Collector, Solapur in 2014 but was transferred as Municipal Commissioner, Navi Mumbai in 2016. He served as CMD, State Transport, Pune in 2017.
Tukaram Mundhe was appointed as Municipal Commissioner, Nashik in 2018 but did not continue and was shifted as Director, Health & Family Welfare, Mumbai City in 2018. After that, he was posted as Commissioner, National Health Mission in 2022. The officer was posted as Secretary, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy in 2023.
Now, He is presently serving as Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration in May 2026.
