Crores of public work without ‘open bidding’ in NPCC
The National Projects Construction Corporation (NPCC), a PSU under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has reportedly floated a sweeping tender to empanel contractors for works ranging from ₹4 crore to ₹650 crore, proposing confidential grading of contractors and without a conventional competitive tendering process. According to sources, this approach undermines the core principles of public procurement, potentially allowing massive allocations of public work without open competition—an unprecedented move that could invite favoritism and corruption. Senior officials familiar with the matter stated that the Government changed the head of the CPSE in the name of reforms. However, developments on the ground suggest that transparency remains far from reality, as per sources.
