Chitranjan Kumar has taken over the charge as Director (Technical), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).  He is a seasoned mining professional with over three decades of experience. Kumar brings extensive technical expertise, strategic leadership and a proven record of driving operational excellence across Coal India Limited's subsidiaries. A B.Tech (Mining Engineering) graduate from BIT Sindri, holder of the First Class Manager's Competency Certificate and an MBA, he has successfully led major mining projects, secured key statutory and environmental clearances, resolved complex land acquisition and R&R issues, and promoted sustainable mining practices.

Prior to joining ECL, he served as Area General Manager, Magadh-Sanghamitra Area, CCL, where he played a key role in advancing major mining projects and capacity expansion. Throughout his career at ECL, CCL and BCCL, he has delivered landmark achievements in production, productivity, safety, environmental compliance and mine development. His outstanding contributions have earned him several prestigious honours, including the Coal Minister's Award, Best General Manager Award and National Safety Award.
