CBI trap: Danayak does his worst as MD in KAPL history
By Sunil Salve

No sooner did Anurag Danayak take on the mantle of Managing Director, Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL) than he started indulging in corrupt practices.

According to reliable sources, before falling into the trap of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the accused allegedly took bribes from the customers who did not report to the police or investigation agencies.

It is noteworthy to mention that Danayak, who was DGM in Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), was selected by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), but the PESB had withheld his name in compliance with the Karnataka High Court after one internal candidate approached the court.

The PESB declared his name after one month as Managing Director, Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL) in 2025.

The accused was caught red-handed while accepting an undue advantage of Rs. 5 lakh as part payment of the demanded bribery amount of Rs. 15 lakh from a Bhopal based firm.

Searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of the accused in Bengaluru, Noida and Jabalpur.

Around Rs. 75 Lakh in cash and foreign currency worth Rs. 4 Lakh were seized from his Noida residence and office chamber in Bengaluru besides 697 grams gold jewellery/coins worth Rs. 86 Lakh approximately and property documents of the residential flat of the accused.
