Uttarakhand tourism: 20 youths achieve national certification in water sports
The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council has achieved another significant milestone in connecting the state's youth with employment and self-employment opportunities in the field of adventure tourism. The 15-day water sports training program, organized from August 5 to 19, 2026, at Tehri Lake in Tehri district, in collaboration with the National Institute of Water Sports, Goa, was successfully completed. Twenty trainees selected from all districts of the state participated and received certified training.
Praveen Singh Rawat and Viraj Shinde, deputed trainers from the National Institute of Water Sports, Goa, were present at the closing ceremony held on August 19, 2026, at the Tehri Lake campus. On this occasion, the Council's water sports expert, Bhupendra Singh, Officer Commanding, Vipin Mishra, Deputy Commandant, Ashutosh Bisht, and the district's DTDO were also present and encouraged the trainees.
"This initiative of the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council is a concrete step towards connecting the state's youth with employment and self-employment opportunities in the field of adventure tourism. Innovation-based training like water sports will not only make local youth professionally skilled, but will also establish the state as a global destination in the field of adventure tourism. The government's priority is to provide skill development opportunities to the youth of every district, so that they become job creators instead of job seekers."
Dhiraj Singh Garbyal, Secretary, Tourism, Government of Uttarakhand.
