The first Joint Regional Rajbhasha Sammelan organized under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry was held at Rubber Research Institute of India, Kottayam. M Vasanthagesan IRS, Executive Director, Rubber Board chaired the meeting and AKM Kashyap IIS, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India delivered the keynote address. Prf. (Dr.) Prabhakaran Hebbar Illath, Department of Hindi, University of Calicut delivered a lecture on the importance of Hindi as an official language. Sanjay Patil (Joint Director of Official Language, Ministry of Commerce and Industry) and Smt. Priya Varma H., (Director, National Institute for Rubber Training) spoke on the occasion. Dr. Siju T. (Rubber Production Commissioner) welcomed the gathering and Dr. Debabrata Ray (Director, Rubber Research Institute of India) delivered the vote of thanks.

A panel discussion was held in connection with the conference on the topic 'Official Language Implementation - Opportunities, Challenges, Steps'. Dr. Madhuseel Ayilyath (Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Ernakulam), Rakesh Kumar Singh (Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Kannur), Adarsh Tripathy (ECGC, Ernakulam), Smt. Sreerekha (MPEDA, Ernakulam), Smt. Sreevidya M. (Rubber Board, Kottayam), and Smt. Lakshmi S. (RBI, Thiruvananthapuram) participated in the panel discussion and  Dr. Prabhakaran Hebbar Illath was the moderator.
