Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways chaired a review meeting on the progress of the Indian Maritime University (IMU), highlighting its emergence as a global leader in maritime education and workforce development.

IMU has transformed into a hub of research, innovation and industry collaboration, supporting India's ambition to become a leading maritime nation. The university has witnessed a five-fold rise in IMU-CET registrations since 2014, an 18-fold increase in women cadet enrolment, and has established over 60 domestic and international academic and industry partnerships since 2021.
