Sunil Kumar Nagdawne, CMD, Pawan Hans had the opportunity to meet Arvinn Gadgil, Deputy Chief of Mission, Royal Norwegian Embassy in India and discuss the recently signed MoU between Pawan Hans and Noemi Aerospace for exploring next generation electric seaplane technology.

The discussion focussed on Pawan Hans’ intent to undertake a detailed techno commercial assessment of electric seaplanes with the objective of accelerating their potential introduction for commercial operations in India.

India has the opportunity to be an early adopter of this emerging technology. We believe that with appropriate regulatory, technological and institutional support, the timeline for commercial deployment can potentially be brought forward significantly from the currently envisaged 2031 horizon towards 2029.

Electric seaplanes can potentially contribute to: Lower carbon emissions; Cleaner and quieter regional connectivity; Connectivity to island and coastal communities; Tourism and emergency response; Development of new regional aviation routes.

The discussion also covered the transformative potential of UDAN 2.0 including the planned development of 100 airports and 200 heliports over the next decade. Pawan Hans sees significant opportunities to complement this national vision through helicopter connectivity, heli tourism, regional air mobility and emerging sustainable aviation technologies.

The convergence of Norwegian innovation and Indian aviation capability can create meaningful opportunities for collaboration in the development of the next generation of sustainable regional air mobility.
