NHPC Limited and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in Agartala on July 10, 2026, for the procurement of power from NHPC's 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The agreement provides for the supply of power to TSECL for 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project, reaffirming the commitment of both organizations to ensuring a reliable supply of clean and sustainable hydroelectric power to the people of Tripura.

Highlighting the significance of the agreement, Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC said, “The signing of this long term PPA marks another significant step in NHPC's commitment to strengthening India's clean energy transition through reliable and sustainable hydropower. This partnership contributes towards ensuring long-term energy security while supporting the nation's renewable energy goals.”

The PPA was signed by Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC and Ms. Sujata Sarkar, Deputy General Manager (Commercial), TSECL, in the presence of Abhisek Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Power, Government of Tripura, Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL and senior officials from both organizations during "Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026," organized by the Government of Tripura.
