Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, inaugurated SPANDAN – Real Time Seismic Data Center, the centralized monitoring facility integrating seismic instrumentation from all NHPC projects. The event was attended by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical) and Heads of Departments at the Corporate Office, while Heads of various NHPC locations participated virtually. Established in compliance with the Dam Safety Act, 2021, this first-of-its-kind facility integrates 90 Strong Motion Instruments and 15 Broadband Instruments across NHPC projects, enabling centralized real-time seismic monitoring.

Addressing on the occasion, CMD, NHPC, highlighted the significance of SPANDAN as a major step towards strengthening NHPC’s seismic monitoring capabilities. He encouraged the team to explore the possibility of integration of AI and predictive analysis for future generation of warning with respect to an earthquake disaster, improved operational efficiency and enable proactive measures for safeguarding critical infrastructure.

Speaking on the occasion, Director (Projects) underscored the importance of adopting advanced methodologies and utilizing Himalayan seismic data for research-driven predictive analysis. Further, Director (Technical) described SPANDAN as a state-of-the-art facility and acknowledged the extensive technical efforts involved in its development.
