Lucknow Development Authority aims to accelerate urban projects
The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has aimed to accelerate five urban projects—including Varun Vihar—with support from the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF). LDA Vice-Chairman Prathamesh Kumar held a meeting with a visiting UCF team from Delhi to strategize the implementation of these projects on the ground. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is implementing the Urban Challenge Fund scheme from the 2025-26 to 2030-31 financial years; under this scheme, up to 25 percent of the required funds for urban projects are provided as capital. Applications were submitted to the UCF to secure capital for five projects, including Varun Vihar. Following this, a meeting was held on Thursday at the Parijat Auditorium with the visiting UCF team, where presentations were made for all the projects seeking financial grants. Development work worth approximately ₹1,000 crore is planned for the first phase of the Varun Vihar scheme, with a request made to the UCF for 25 percent of the funding. A 2.3-kilometer-long flyover is proposed to be built from Baikunth Dham to La Martiniere Ground via the 1090 Crossing. This project will cost ₹330 crore and benefit an urban population of approximately 10 lakh. Financial assistance has been sought for the proposed Patrakarpuram multi-level parking facility, estimated to cost ₹30 crore. A multi-story library spanning 2,592 square meters will be constructed near Hanuman Setu. Located near Lucknow University, this library will benefit a large number of students; the construction cost is estimated at ₹58.78 crore. Financial assistance has been requested from the UCF for the redevelopment of the Kailash Kunj Complex, a project estimated to cost ₹195 crore. Officials and engineers present at the meeting included Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, Chief Engineer Mahesh Verma, LDA Finance Controller Anil Kumar, and UCF members Mrityunjay Jaiswal, Deepu Tom, and Neerja Gupta.
