GRSE: From Keel to CAD - Conversations in Modern Ship Design
GRSE, in association with the Indian Navy, organised the Ship Design Workshop 2026 at GRSE Bhavan, Kolkata, on 03 Jul 26. The workshop was graced by Chief Guest Rear Admiral Iftekhar Alam, NM, ADG (WDB), in the august presence of Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE, along with senior officials from GRSE and the Indian Navy.

Bringing together over 50 experts from Defence PSUs, private shipyards, academia, classification societies and design organisations, the workshop provided a valuable platform for deliberations on hull design, naval hydrodynamics, digital transformation in ship design, engineering and quality assurance, design review, construction challenges, and global best practices in naval shipbuilding.

The key highlight was the technical session by Prof. OP Sha, Emeritus Professor, Department of Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture, IIT Kharagpur, on “Hull Form Optimisation for Hydrodynamic Performance”.

By fostering collaboration, innovation and technical knowledge exchange among stakeholders across the shipbuilding ecosystem, the workshop reinforced India's journey towards self-reliance and excellence in indigenous warship design and construction.
