Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, has been honoured with yet another prestigious award for his outstanding leadership in steering some of India's most complex underground road tunnelling projects, reshaping the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

At the 16th RAHSTA Expo 2026 (Roads and Highways Sustainable Technologies & Advancement), held at the Jio World Convention Centre, Dr. Mukherjee was conferred the Special Recognition Award for Exemplary Leadership in Advancing the Underground Tunnelling Network across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The award was presented by Hon'ble Shri Ajay Tamta, Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Government of India.

Dr. Mukherjee also delivered the keynote address at the event, highlighting how an integrated network of roads, highways, bridges and tunnels is transforming the MMR and strengthening its position as India's fastest-growing metropolitan regions.

Earlier this year, the Tunnelling Association of India also recognised Dr. Mukherjee for his Outstanding Contributions to National Infrastructure and Tunnelling Excellence at the 5th TAI Excellence Awards.

Today, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is rapidly emerging as India's tunnelling capital, and Dr. Mukherjee is among the key leaders driving this transformation.
