Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Maritime Administration, attended the 15th Foundation Day of the Maritime Trainers Guild (MTG) held in Mumbai on 1 August 2026, bringing together maritime educators, trainers, industry leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on the future of maritime education.

The programme, themed "Transforming Maritime Education through Fuels, Faculty & Digital Tools", focused on preparing the maritime workforce for emerging technologies, alternative fuels, digital learning ecosystems and enhanced faculty capabilities.

The event was built around four key pillars — Educate, Empower, Inspire and Build — emphasising quality education, innovation-driven learning, leadership development and capacity building for the maritime sector. Discussions covered future-ready training methodologies, AI-enabled learning, faculty development and strategies to equip seafarers with the skills required for the evolving global shipping industry.

The event underscored the collective commitment to transforming maritime education and building a future-ready maritime workforce through innovation and excellence in training.
