CBI arrests Senior Executive, IRCTC in bribery case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Tridib Banerjee, Senior Executive of IRCTC West Zone Office, Mumbai, and Amar Thakkar, Director, M/s Araha Hospitality Pvt. Ltd, Kolkata, in a bribery case. The CBI registered the instant case on July 22, 2026 against the said accused on allegations that the accused public servant, in conspiracy with the accused private person and others, was involved in obtaining undue advantage as a reward for improper and dishonest discharge of official duties.

It was further alleged that the accused public servant had accepted undue advantage of Rs. 1,98,500 on April 21,  2026 and Rs. 2,00,000 on June 8, .2026, deposited in cash into his bank account maintained with Punjab National Bank, in lieu of helping/facilitating the passing of pending bills submitted by M/s Araha Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. On both the occasions, the cash was allegedly deposited by an associate of the private company's Director. During the course of investigation on 22.07.2026, both the accused were confronted at the IRCTC West Zone Office, Mumbai, regarding the demand and acceptance of undue advantage of Rs. 3,98,500. The accused Director of the Private Company was found in possession of a bag containing cash amounting to Rs. 4,49,500 and Rs.13,200.

Incriminating WhatsApp chats were found on the mobile phones of the accused persons. The cash recovered was taken into CBI possession, and the mobile phones of both the accused were seized and sealed. Relevant files and bills submitted by M/s Araha Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. were also seized.

Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused public servant and private person, during which incriminating documents were seized.

Both the accused were arrested on 22.07.2026 and produced before the Hon'ble Special Court, which has granted police custody till July 27, 2026.

Investigation in the case is continuing.
